The Arcam DV79 is listed in the sticky thread about players with 480i via HDMI. I don't think doing that requires unlocking any secret menus. No other players do. If it does PAL, I would assume 576i would work also. What does the manual say?

Hi thanks for the reply, i did find mention of the dv79 in the list in the stickys,

but i have tried to diable progressive in hdmi menu but it turns hdmi off completely, but not component.

The reason im trying to do it because the panasonic pj i have has auto progressive scan which conflicts and gives bad vertical banding, it works ok in component, but does n't look as colourful as hdmi.

It says in the manual its is capable of 576i/576p

so there must be some way of changing it,

I will have to wait till the pj comes back from service as i set it to be looked at because of the problem ( i think it is a design fault as its quite bad with other dvd players).

Any other ideas welcomed.

The first thing to try is to go into setup and put 'Force DVI' to 'ON'. That strips the HDMI of audio which may work with the Panasonic. If that doesn't work, send it back to 'OFF'. Then go to 'output priority' and switch that to 'analogue'. Then you can press and hold the 'STOP' button on the front of the DV79 to toggle back and forth between progressive scan on and off. See if that gets you what you want! Otherwise, when 'output priority' is set to HDMI, the unit is always forced into progrssive scan when an HDMI cable is connected. Hope this helps.
