I am planning to cancel my dish subscription because all I ever watch now are the local HD channels. This raises two questions:

1. Can I still watch the OTA channels when I don't subscribe to anything?

2. If so, can I disconnect the sat signal and still watch OTA channels?

Has anyone tried this before?

I called DISH, asked for an advanced tech support person, and got someone who a) told me that what I've been watching is not really HDTV, and b) I can just plug my antenna into my TV and get the same HDTV channels. When I informed her that my "TV" only has a VGA input, she said "Oh. then you can't watch your local channels without a subscription".

Somehow, I don't trust her answer.

Well in order to watch OTA channels , you have to have the OTA module. Your antenna is plugged into it. One problem with the 6000 is that it must be hooked up to the DISH in order for the OTA to work. No subscription is required for the OTA to work.

If you never turned off the receiver or lost power then you could possibly disconnect the DISH and still have OTA but what the chances of that happenning!

If your TV has a VGA input then your are good to go. If your are receiving local HD channel broacasting in HD and your TV is capable of showing a HD picture, well there you go!
