I have been waiting on new 1.3 HDMI receivers to come out and need a nice warm receiver for my Ascend speakers. I have been hearing horror stories about HK AVRS and that they sound great when they work but have reliability problems. Do HK owners verify this with Harmon Kardon AVRs? If a person rated warmth (by warmth I mean not bright or harsh with trebles) of avrs from major brands, how would they rank? HK>marantz>pioneer>Denon>Yamaha>Onkyo????

consider a factory refurb directly from Harman. Two year warranty and no one has anything but good to say about their customer support if there is a problem.

alot of refurbs from h/k... a little scary imo. That said, my hk525 is still working flawlessly for over 5 years now.

got my HK AVR 145 from a big box store (future shop) for a great clearance price, and got the extended warrenty

- so if it blows-up, I'll get it replaced - likely with a newer, better HK model.

I purchased an HK 220 back in 2002. Thought it would last 10+ years, now all I am seeing is auto shut off problems. The unit will stay on for about 2-3 mins and then all of a sudden turn itself off. I had it repaired for $200!!! and now its doing it again.


Guess they didn't get to the root of the problem. By the way the unit will do it without anything hooked into it.
