Are Orion made Sharps bad?

1097 Views 10 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Suma
Heyas folks, I was thinking of picking up a Sharp 26D40U for my bedroom, but then I heard they weren't made by sharp but by Orion. So made question is, are Orion made sets really lower quality than those made by sharp? Or is it a matter of brand superstition?

I doubt if there is a lot of a knowledge base developed yet on those products, since it is a fairly new approach by Sharp. It would seem that if Sharp could produce them at the same production costs as Orion, they would do so. So you might be taking a risk on quality standards.

Look up the Toshiba/Orion direct view CRT threads. It seems like there was a lot of postings about the poor quality and reliablility of Orion components in the Toshiba direct views HD sets.
yeah that Walt Chan guy in the CRT forums is the guy to ask.

They're not necessary bad, although my experience with Orion-made products is absolute dysmal (went through 12 defective Orion-made Toshiba products in one year). Just more cheaper parts used in the TV when building.

Play a tape for about five minutes, then whole unit locks up (no buttons respond), unplug it, replug it back again, and now it does not power up (dead power supply). What a joke. Buying an Orion-made product is a gamble (some last for many years, some do not).
Hah!. I knew if I just used Toshiba/Orion bait, he would smell it instantly, and rush to recount his long sorry tales of Toshiba woes. Just as moths are drawing to the flame, Walt can not resist repeating his Tales of Toshiba. I guess you could title it: A half-baker's dozen.:D

LMAO! :)
Blah, looks like it's back to the drawing board. This is going to be the first HDTV I buy and I want it to last till I finish undergrad college and get a real job.
