About 6 years ago I bought 2 samsung plasmas and had a screen uniformity problem on both tvs where there was a 3 inch horizontal bar that was a slight shade different going across the screen. All the replacements had this too. I ended giving up after about 5 replacements and got a refund.I purchased 2 panasonic plasmas and couldnt have been happier. now its time to upgrade to a bigger size.

since panasonic is out of the game im looking back at samsung. how is the screen uniformity, black levels, ghosting, line bleed, and burn in on samsung. i know everything on panasonic was better in my experience. the 60f5300 caught my eye in the store but the little things that piss you off you find out at home. its so hard to demo a tv with all the damn lights on

I'll let you know in about a week. I have hated Samsung for so long and all my previous TV's were Panasonic. But like you it was time to upgrade to a bigger tv and I have ordered a 8500. Could not find a left over Panny anywhere. I've read all the threads concerning it, I know what to look for when I get it. truth is if I do not like it, what do I do? Buy LCD....nope. Probably just live with my current Panny for as long as it works.

yes... but it's the least junky of all displays currently on the market:mad:

like said above, if you want to find problems, you can, and easily. but that can be done for every display. they ALL have a lot of problems

that all being said, I am still happy with the f8500, and I'm sure I would have been happy with an st60, vt60, or zt60 as well. beyond that, I'm not sure anything else would have left me buyer's remorse free.

to address your concerns specifically:

screen uniformity: best on market. the only thing that would be as good is another plasma:p

black levels: different because of the black optimizer function, but still class leading. only the panny's beat it

ghosting: not sure this was ever a problem, I saw ghosting like 15yrs ago when I couldn't quite tune in the channel I was trying to watch... ???

line bleed: when surfing the web, I do notice VERY faint changes in the white background of webpages if there are large images on screen. it appears slightly darker beside the images. this is the ONLY time I've ever noticed it. it's not visible under any viewing condition with video

Burn in: well burn in is abuse, so if you're going to leave your tv paused for a week that's your own fault, but image retention on the other hand, the f8500 actually handles exceptionally well. it's definitely possible to produce, but it does take several hours(ie me surfing the web) and it's only very faint. it's WAY better than my old Samsung(b530) plasma, and reportedly better than the 2013 panny's. honestly, if you're watching video, it's not a concern anymore. scope movies, or news tickers aren't enough to do it anymore.

That 60 inch 5300 model looks to be a dot matrix screen display .

I passed on it.

Yes, I do not care for it (looked at it closely the other day at Costco) and I wonder if it actually performs the same as the 51" and 64" models.

Yes, all are junk even the brightness pop festival F8500

My cousin return 1 for the pops issue

I'm almost positive this is the normal behaviour of the black optimizer. not a defect. did he try it with the BO turned off?

if you're familiar with projectors, the BO reminds me of a dynamic iris. it 'kicks in' when displaying a dark scene to make the blacks darker. without it, the blacks are pretty stable, just not nearly as impressive

Yes with every setting doesnt matter the last firmware is a clear issue, i had on my return D550 and when i visited him i clearly see the brightness pops but the users of samsung in this forum keep saying: I dont watch any brightness pops and bla bla bla and samsung never will do anything to fix, not en d, e and f series, i highly doubt they do something on h series because sammy boys think this is normal, that never happens in my GT50, never, period.

I told him: one time you can watch it, there is not going back, you will always wait for pops appear.

Clearly see it in one scene from resident evil retribution white scene doesnt matter the modes it pops, that never happen on my gt50. He is a gamer obviusly if your play fifa, madden, pro evo and halo or something like that your will see it too, its a shame because i convence him to buy a plasma with brightness of a LCD/LED for gaming, but like me the pops ruin the fun.

For me samsung plasma is a no NO.(No 2013 Panasonic Plasma in Perú)

I know your have one, if you dont see pops, better for you but doesnt mean that the problems doesnt exist.

Ps: Sorry for the first text, i wrote this one on my crappy tablet and the android native language is spanish, so the corrector do weird things

Yes, their still junk.

Kidding.

What a terrible thread title. You had problems with a TV you bought 6 years ago? Low end, high end? Are you grouping every Samsung plasma as junk just because the model you had was with issues?

You are looking at the F5300. That is on the lower end of their line so don't expect a BMW at Kia prices.

Friend bought a Samsung PN64E533 Plasma last year (Feb 2013) and it failed 9 months later. it would turn on but no picture, Only audio, on all inputs.

It was under warranty of course and they came out and fixed it. Been working fine since then but would have to admit I didn't expect a failure so soon.

Other than that it has a great picture especially considering its a bare bones model.

interesting. I'm one of those guys that never saw them. then I FINALLY did when I tried a specific scene and stared at the black bars to make sure I didn't miss anything. but when I turned BO off, it never happened. BUT, I was not impressed with the black levels on dark scenes with BO off.

I'm still not totally sure what brightness pops are maybe, but I can not detect any changes in brightness(other than what the BO does) on mine. I know the opening scenes of Prometheus caused a lot of issues, that was one thing the BO just messes up, but again I didn't detect anything with the BO off.

in the end, I need to go with measurements. and the latest results I've seen posted indicate the there is a substantial change in MLL with BO on, and almost no change with BO off(I think it went from .009 to .010)

I know there's still some big issues with the f8500, but I'm happy with mine. i probably would have bought a vt or zt if I'd known how the BO actually worked, but then i would have spent more money and with a projector, i don't really use it for movies as much anymore. so in the end, maybe the st60 would have been the 'right' choice for me
