I know the SB Live's came under fire in this forum for inadequate S/PIF signals. Does anyone know if the new Audigy's are any better?

I am growing tired of my Zoltix Nightingale Pro sound card in my HTPC. It's digital out is fine, but its analog qualities are really bad.

Any other multi-purpose gaming/HTPC card I should consider?

I have had the live cards and they suck. I have also had the audiophile 24/96 and it rocks. The audigy is not like the live cards in my opinion. Its much improved over the live cards and if all you want to do is pass DD/DTS the audigy would suffice. ITs analog portion is not like the audiophiles, but with my denon avr-4800 receiver in DD/DTS the audigy sounds identical to the Audiophile 24/96

For $32, I took a chance on the Hercules Fortissimo II. It uses a Cirrus Logic chip instead of the CMI, which is known for bad analog. Hopefully it will work fine.

I didn't want to go into Creative Lab territory if I didn't have to. thanks.
