Easy - if the crossed diag is the same - your image is centered. If your image is centered and a square shows your screen corners are square you are in good shape. Also known as the Pythogoream theorem....
Making it square if not - not so easy....at some point you realize that is what the matte frame is for.
Giant compass with string/pencil - construction lasers, plumb bobs - lots of tricks to try. One of the most fundamental - centered means with the lens - not with the mount!
