Everytime I've had to calibrate my speakers, I've always wondered why there arn't any recievers that can do it themselves. It seems like it would be easy enough to put a microphone in the spot where you sit, and let the receiver play various test tones and adjust the speakers itself. As long as you ONLY use the microphone it came with it seems like it should work. Wouldn't it? Am I missing something?

Add the Enlightened Audio Design [ EAD ] TheaterMaster series to the list.

The TheaterMaster plays "pink noise" [ equal energy per octave ] while it adjusts

the level of each speaker in turn.

It then sends a series of "pops" to each speaker in turn - and from the timing as to

when the microphone hears the pop - it can adjust the timing delay based on the

distance from the speaker to the microphone as calculated from the delay time

between when the EAD sends out the pop, and when it hears it in the microphone.

I have the Denon AVR-5803 and I haven't read about any auto adjustment. How does it work? Where is it in the manual? Do you need a microphone? I know that you can manually adjust it using the speaker level adjustment in the setup menu but I know of no auto adjustment feature. Please enlighten me.

Yes, the 3805 is Denon's first foray into the auto-eq arena. It does require the "optional" $65 microphone, but it does an exceptional job measuring, adjusting, calibrating, etc. The new 2805 apparently comes with the mic, but the jury is still out on the difference in features between the 3805 and the 2805. There are many happy 3805 owners on the forum! :D

BTW, this is probably more suited for the receivers/amplifiers forum...you might get more responses. :)

Got all the answers I needed. I just wondered if it existed (at least on a consumer level). I would have been VERY surprised to find out I'm the only one who ever thought of it.
