Are there plans for an AMC channel in HD?

I haven't heard of any but it seems like the best candidate for HD. Who do we need to convince?

Probably not in the near future. Besides, if it's anything like their SD channel it won't be worth watching.

TMC-HD is supposedly coming. When? That's anyone's guess...
Yes, it is called VOOM.

AMC is owned by Cablevision (as is the VOOM channels) and they use some of the films in their library for VOOM.
Voom rarely has good movies in their lineups. Even the "Majestic" channel usually has "B" movies at best. Monsters-HD has some good ones though, for B movies that is...

TCM has had a "TCM-HD will be available by the end of this year" on their web site since mid 2004. Other than that, I've not seen any office announcement from them at all. Although we did hear "Tuner going HD" stuff from time to time, it has usually been chalked up to TNT-HD or even TBS's local HDTV efforts.

Still, TCM-HD would be a great addition to any lineup. Right now the only thing that comes close is HDNet Movies will frequently has good quality classics from time to time.
Doesn't look like TCM even has HD coming soon on their site any more.
AMC? Commercials and a persistent logo? No thanks. Don't watch it in SD and wouldn't watch it in HD.
Come on now, who wouldn't be excited to see such American movie classics as Piñata: Survival Island in HD?

Yowser! Got a 2.7 out of 10 on IMDB. My kind of movie. But it's not available on DVD. Guess I'll have to start watching AMC. Maybe the commercials and logo will make the movie better. :D

Say, whatever did happen to TCM-HD? It was supposed to be on by the end of 2005 (or possibly 2004). Perhaps someone with a magic eight ball would care to contact Turner and chime in. Please?

This channel and both ESPNs would probably keep me as a cable subscriber once blu ray discs launch in 2006. Otherwise I might just go OTA and hi def Netflix. C'mon TCM-HD. :D

Terrific. Didn't know Netflix was going HD.
If you look at the new TCM start of movie clips, they're very sharp and probably HD. The camera used on Robert Osborne, however, appears to be the same old soft focus SD. I think the recent documentaries are all shot in HD. I haven't really noticed how the clips on the Saturday aftedrnoon guy are.

Lots of luck with Sony's new technology to mate BR to 1 Player only.

I hope you are the first to get the disc from Netflixs if that plan rolls out.
I hope I'm wrong, but I wonder if the studios aren't too eager to support a TCM-HD channel with HD transfers, as they may feel it will cannibalize Blu-ray/HD DVD sales. I agree it would be a killer channel (assuming the same variety and depth of programming as currently available on TCM), and more worthy of a premium fee than many of the premium channels are now.
TCM is a class act. They always show films in the original aspect ratio, when available. AMC did do that, but apparently now caters to the lowest common denominator. I would agree that a premium fee might be in order for TCM-HD.
The HD market is still so small, I seriously doubt a classic HD movie channel would even put a dent into HD software sales. If anything I would think it would help promote it.
