You'll be OK for about 3000-5000 hours if you project within the worn area. Keep in mind these units have lots of power supply problems which are not repairable, so don't spend too much money on this set.

you'll also need the set up remote.

Thanks Curt ! Actually, I have a 9pg+ and the remote seems to work for this unit. This is for a friend of mine that was very impressed with my unit and is looking for an entry level projector. I just wanted to make sure I gave him something decent.

Thanks for a quick reply!

I also noticed that the worn areas on the tubes are fairly square, which means the projector was mounted low (if ceiling mounted) or high (if floor mounted). If the projector gets mounted higher on the ceiling above the screen, then a more trapezoidal area will get used, and you might have to either mount the projector closer to the screen (sacrificing resolution) or have the burned in areas in the frame (which would look bad).

I agree that this can be made to work, but I wouldn't pay too much for it.

Yes, Tom,

it seems that the pj was mounted in an "on axis" position, and the worn area produced is rectangular in shape...

In any case, I aggree with you that if the focus is acceptable, the only thing to do is to mount the pj far enough from the screen to maintain the raster withing the worn area. It's possible to find those tubes from Charles Clarke (at a very low price), but very probably it is not worth it.

You can't determine how long the crt's are gonna last by seeing on the wear pattern. You can have 500hrs crts with severe wear pattern, and you can have 20,000hrs crt with no wear pattern at all.

To determine the conditon you have to throw a picture and look at focus and brigthness. The wear pattern does only show that the crt's have been overdriven. The other important factor is remaining cathode material which are the 'fuel' of the crt.

Per Johnny,

what you say is true, but normally, to have an overall idea about the CRT usage, it's enough to look at its surface. in the most of the cases, you're able to understand the usage level, the brightness decrease on the corners and the focus condition with a sufficient precision.
