I'm out of component intputs on my 46" Hitachi and I am thinking about getting the slimmer PS2. Just wondering what the PS2 looks like on a fairly large screen without pro scan. I used to have a PS2 and the components and it looked fairly bad even with 480p games. I wanna play GT4 and GTA:SA. Thanks.

Personally I think the PS2 looks like @ss no matter *how* you connect it to a bigscreen or widescreen TV.......however, considering the source, I doubt you'd see much difference moving from Component to Svideo......

GT4 will probably still look good, and GTA:SA will probably still look bad, since the GTA series is one of the ugliest low-rez games they make........

Great game, but ugly low-rez graphics and textures...the sacrifice they had to make to keep the framerates up and still be able to fill the world with stuff.

Yeah, I used to own a PS2 and didn't get much use out of it besides the 1st party titles. Now that GT4 and games like Killzone are on the horizon, I thought why not get the new version which looks pretty slick. I would like to hook it up via component just because the DVD player in the new PS2 does pro scan. With S-Video I feel like I would be wasting that aspect of the system.

Well I love my PS2, I just don't love it displayed on a bigscreen or widescreen TV.

I have mine hooked to a digital 27" Flatscreen and I think all the games for it look fantastic.....4:3 and 27" is like what the system was designed for. GTA looks good enough, and pretty games like NFS Underground look great. Just...not on a bigscreen, to my eyes anyhow.

Well, I found a solution. I found a Mad Catz component cable that has both XBOX and PS2 inputs. I actually compared it to my current MS HD pack and the quality is identical. Unfortunately the PS2 looks mediocre on the TV. I picked up Socom 2 ($20 greatest hits) and although it is crisp on pro scan, it's DARK. Even with the in-game brightness all the way up I had to crank my TV brightness from 50 to 56 and contrast from 30 to 33. Same with GTA vice city (no pro scan for this title). The size of the new PS2 is TINY. I put one of the DVD cases next to it and it may be 1" longer and 1/2" deeper.
