Outlines new boxes with more GB program storage, better guides, and CableCard features. (Free viewing for 1 week.) By July 1, according to an FCC ruling, the new STBs are supposed to work with all cable systems. Yeah, right.


Nice to have better operating features, but for viewers interested in PQ it would also be interesting to learn if newer STBs, with or without CableCards, can boost effective resolution received compared to older Motorola and SA set top boxes. Many report getting

One of my last links outlines how I measured ~970 lines (effective, not format resolution) with a 8000HD, then 1290 lines for a replacement 8300HD STB. (Measured ~1335 lines with yet another STB and different cable system.) My readings were all with analog YPbPr. Haven't kept track, but likely some of the others reporting
