Just had my Dwin DLP installed professionally. They seemed to have done a great job.

Question. I have a 16x9 screen. When I played Gladiator on my DVD player and told the projector that the movie is an anamorphic film, it puts black bars on top and bottom. If i tell it that it is letterbox, then it fills the screen completely. Is this correct or am I missing something.

I tried playing Fifth Element and Titan AE and got the same result. Do i need a 2;35 screen in order not to get the bars.

So what does completely cover a 16x9 screen? Non amamorphic films

I would appreciate any help possible.

Humey,

Anamorphic or not, a 2.35:1 movie will have black bars

above and below if it is projected on a 16:9 screen. Many

people use masking devices to temporarily turn a 16:9

screen into a 2.35:1 (aka 21:9) screen.

HDTV will completely cover a 16:9 screen because that

is its exact apect ratio. Many movies have an aspect ratio

of 1.85:1 (for example I just watched "Best in Show", which

is 1.85:1). This is pretty close to 16:9 (which is 1.78:1),

so it pretty much fills up the screen. Sci-fi films are

usually 2.35:1.
