I know that it has a 16:9 ratio but the DVD's I buy or rent dont read the same way on the covers. I mean, is it 2:35 to 1 or 1:85 to 1 or neither. I just need to know which movies would be best for my 16:9.
Ummmmm....16:9 or 16 divided by 9 is about 1.78 to 1 so 1.85:1 is the closest 'normal' movie aspect ratio format to the HD aspect ratio.
Normally a 1.85:1 movie will fill a widescreen set without any bars because of overscan, etc. A 2.35:1 movie will have bars of course. The widest formated movie I can remember seeing is 2.45:1 although there may be wider.
In case you're planning to hook up a home theater PC to your GWII: I'm using it with ZoomPlayer and simply zoom in on the movie until it fills the whole screen regardless of movie aspect ratio. Of course I loose some of the sides of the movie, but sofar that hasn't botherered me (besides I can always just zoom out again, it's easy with ZP).
