I seem to be having issues when it comes to streaming a movie that is in the

2.35:1 aspect ratio to an HDTV using Netflix streaming. A 2.35:1 movie should have some black on top and bottom on an HDTV. But It seems that the picture is just stretching to the screen edges -so the image fills the 16:9 screen. - This leaves the image still stretched up and down - - - When playing the same movie on a computer - it is displayed properly as 2.35: 1 - - has anyone encountered this problem - -

A recent firmware update for current model Samsung Blu-ray players causes all sorts of aspect ratio problems. Old 4:3 movies are stretched and wider than 16:9 is squished. Samsung admitted to me there was a problem (pretty much a first for Samsung, I hope the guy I talked to still has his job!) and that they are working on it. Netflix claims ignorance, but if there is a problem they blame Samsung.

Might have something to do with the preparation of the streams. Whatever the workflow is I think sometimes somebody either at the studio, distributor or Netflix screws up. The odd thing about the foreign film I watched the other night that was supposed to be 2:35:1 and was squished horizontally as a 16:9 full screen with the subtitles partly off the screen and I couldn't pop up the progress bar either. Don't know if Samsung screwed up or Netflix.
