Assault on Precinct 13 - anyone having troubles with it

This is the first HD-DVD disc in which I'm having lock ups; which I fixed by cleaning the disc with a potent digital cleaning fluid. However about midway through the film the software had some major lip sync issues. I'm not talking minor timing issues between lip movement and sound...I'm talking a major lost in space audio track, about 15 seconds behind where it should have been based on what was going on in the video.

I'm having audio dropouts and sputtering framerates from my Netflix copy. It's clean as a whistle, so I'm not sure what the problem is.
Hey guys, I'm sorry to hear your having problems with the players, would you please consider posting on my thread in the HD-DVD Player section under "A-1 or XA-1 having freeze problems", I'm trying to get some idea as to how wide spread this issue is.

Thanks

Thomas,

I've only had one "problem" attributable to the XA1, and it was resolved by unplugging it's AC life support from the wall :D and then plugging it back in. Since then the "player" has preformed like a champ. This Universal HD-DVD "software" that I have, is the problem child in this case. Based on some feedback garnered from another forum, the possibility is that I have a bad disc; perhaps then, not an issue with the enire pressing of Assault on P13 on HD-DVD. I will be exchanging for a new copy at BB today.

If I do start to have freeze up problems on the scale that would warrant posting I'll certainly contribute my experiences. So far, using a good CD cleaner seems to have spared me from these freeze ups. A hint though, no matter how clean the disc looks to your eyes...Assault was fresh out of the box, and crystal clean loooking...result freeze up. Apply CD/DVD cleaner solution....disc shines with briliant multicolored rainbows reflecting off of its surface...presto! no more freeze ups.

Mne played fine. It must be some bad discs...?
I love HD-DVD, but its sad that there are so many random issues with these players. Very disappointing.
Mine played fine. Connections, both audio and video, all through HDMI with a monoprice HDMI switcher.

Tried this movie today and I get those same dropout issues. Only disc I have had problems with. Time to contract Universal to replace it
My copy from Netflix played twice, start to finish, without any problem. In addition, I did some A/B testing comparing the HD (HD-AX1) and SD (Denon 2910) disks, so there was a significant amount of pausing, rewinding, chapter advance, etc. Again, no problems with the HD disk.

Great, I guess I will find out later (since I just bought it)....
BTW, I have been keeping every receipt from these titles (just in case) and I strongly urge everyone else to do the same... ;)
After having problems with Precinct 13 and Jarhead, I was able to watch Swordfish and Last Samurai all the way through without incident.

I'm now thinking that the trouble lies with something that Universal is doing in disc authoring or at the pressing plant they are using.

I have the same feeling,
I dont have jarhead, but Apollo 13, Serenity and Doom all worked fine for me. Havent had a chance to try Cinderella Man yet
Jarhead worked fine for me lastnite... :)
On my player Jarhead had only one episode of stuttering but Assault on Precinct 13 played fine.
glad 2 see i am not the only one having problems with this dvd. audio not in sync with video and freezing problems as well
Universal sent me a return envelope to ship the disc to them fed ex overnight, Ill ship it back tommorow
VC1 VC1 VC1. Need I say any more. Come on people! It is my strong opinion that the problem is not the hardware but the encoding. VC1 may be good with compression but it is not yet, ready for primetime. So far none of HD-DVD disc pressed have been encoded with Mpeg4. I find it odd that no else seems to think it is an issue related to encoding. After all, none of my SD DVD have shown any type of glitch what so ever. If this had occurred with the SD then I would be more incline to believe that it is player related. I'm sure if you research these forums related to audio drop outs and picture freezing, you will find out that well over 98% complaints is HD-DVD related.

I have played far more SD DVD than HD on my HD-A1.

Roughly 70% SD-DVD, 25% HD -DVD, 3% CD and 2% DVD/A.

HD-DVD only one to show any issues.
