it shouldn't be complicated.I have a newer sony ES (2000 ES) and I can do that by going to the menu where it says customize.Just scroll down on the customize menu and you should see the digital assign option.It's very easy after that.Now I am speaking how I can do it in my receiver but I doubt that it would be any different in yours.Good luck!

Assignable Coax Audio on Sony ES Reciever?
Hi guys...
I've got an HD cable box with a coaxial digital audio output (no toslink) connected to my Sony DA4ES receiver. Currently the only Coaxial Audio options on the receiver are for CD/SACD and DVD/LD but are listed as ASSIGNABLE.
I'd really like to switch assignability of one of the coaxial inputs to Video 1, and I cannot seem to locate my owners manual.
Does anyone know how this is done? Is it a complicated process?
