Disregard this post. The problem remains.

Enter the PS3. I figure everything will be the same right? And surely it was at first. Just the HDMI cable to the TV, I change the sound setting on the PS3 to HDMI. I confirm that the TV is passing through the sound from the PS3 to the receiver. I try to play a bluray movie and a game, but the audio does not seem to switch to DD/DTS, it stays in its 2 channel matrix/dsp setting which usually means a digital signal is not being seen. It's like the PS3 is only sending 2 channel through the HDMI cable. I did select DD/DTS as supported. I tried changing to PCM which obviously didn't work in my case. Tried different cables. I know the wiring is correct, and the TV is passing through the sound from the ps3 to the receiver but just seems to be in 2ch only. I connected the optical cable, and switched it, and everything is fine, but just lost a little convenience of just having to switch the TV source and keeping the receiver on one source.

Your explanation about why it is only passing 2channel makes sense, probably right on the money too. So there is no way around this unless Sony makes an update? Perhaps I will email them.
