Asus Nforce430 6150 DXVA Woes...

Ok, now this is really starting to irk the hell out of me. Using latest Zoomplayer, Nforce drivers, and latest Nvidia Purevideo Decoder.

Have DXVA (mode b) working under VMR9, Exclusive Renderless mode. A quick look at the Nvidia Decoder settings indicates that the video mixer being used is DirectX 9. Smart deinterlacing enabled, pixel adaptive method. Obviously, I'm not using any post processing. CPU usage is between 10-14%, w/DTS processing through SPDIF to my receiver.

Image looks fantastic, but every so often, the video completely freaks out and stops suddenly, sound drops out completely... then its very slow for a second or two, then rights itself. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it at all, and there are no CPU usage spikes at all.

The same exact thing happens in the other VMR modes, like windowless and windowed. In those modes, the CPU is steady at between 25-30%, no spikes when the drop outs occur.

Now, this is the part thats completely pissing me off. If I enable FFDshow, using one of the VMR modes, I lose the hardware acceleration... the CPU runs between 80-90% with my processing chain, picture looks absolutely stunning and NEVER skips or drops out at all.

To be perfectly honest, I would much rather take the minor hit in picture quality and not have to stress test my processor every time I want to watch a movie... but I'm at my wits end here trying to figure out what the hell is causing it to do this. Any comments/suggestions would be much appreciated.

Why baby the processor? They are built to work. Why dump the load to the GPU and PQ suffers? Unless you have heat concerns, these CPU's are made to work.

Fan noise is a concern, and I'm a little paranoid when it comes to beating processors to death.

Besides, that's not really the point. The point is that I want the DXVA mode to work properly, even if I decide not to use it. I just want to know if its something in my settings that can be fixed, or if my hardware is buggered somehow.
