Athena AS-P400 or HSU STF-2

I am process of upgrading from an old Bose Dolby Surround system. I have purchased a Yamaha 5760 and a set of Athena Point 5 MK-II Speakers (4 S.5 satellites, and a matching C.5 center channel). My final decision is which subwoofer. I am considering either the Athena AS-P400 or the HSU STF-2. The system will be in a smallish (14' x 12') room and will probably use 70% for HT and 30% for music. It seem the pros for Athena are - likely well matched to the Point 5 speakers, reportedly good for music, aesthetics are OK. Pros for the HSU - likely more base extension but not as pleasing to the eye.

What do people think? With my room size will there be a noticeable difference between the HSU and AS-P400 to justify an approx $70 adder for the HSU STF-2 (looking at best on-line prices), or will the fact that the AS-P400 should be well matched to the Point 5's make it a better option.

Unfortunately I can't find local options to audition either sub.

Although Athena is good, Hsu would be much better. I'm not sure which model I actually listened to, but the Athena I heard was simply ok in comparison with a Hsu (specifically the STF-2). You can always adjust the bass output, but I'd imagine the bass will sound much better from the Hsu.

In a room your size consider the stf-1 and it would be less than the Athena...

That is a real pity as it's the only way to be 100% positive. But remember if you order an STF-2 from Hsu and you find (once its set-up) that you "don't" like it, you do get 30 days to return it (for only the cost of shipping). On the general consensus here it probably makes the most sense to order the Hsu and then see if the dealer will loan you a AS-P400 once you have the Hsu. Listen to them both and return the one you don't like.

IMO I really doubt it will be the STF-2 going back. But my opinion is just an opinion its not how you may find it. Listening is the only test of SQ worth for audio equipment.
