Something interesting for the HTPC community is in the release notes. However, I thought the 3.9 drivers introduced this feature.

From the release notes.

720p and 1080i HDTV Mode Support

The CATALYSTâ„¢ Software Suite 4.10 introduces support for both 720p and 1080i HDTV mode for both CRTs and DFPs. A new properties tab labeled Troubleshoot is added to the ATI Classic Control Panel for both the FPD and Monitor properties page. The Troubleshoot tab will allow users to force 720p and 1080i modes.

Just to clarify: 4.10 is for October. There are two more driver releases coming this year, 4.11 in November and 4.12 in December. See the pattern?

Next year, 2005, will see version 5.1 some time in January.

ATI's current goal is to release new drivers on a monthly basis. It's a nice schedule that lets you pick and choose which releases you want to go with and if you want to skip a few releases if nothing you use is really broken.

It's nice to see they are still supporting the 9700 Pro after all this time :)

I installed 4.10 via an RDP connection. When the system rebooted, cli.exe was taking up all CPU cycles. Uninstalling all ATI and installing all didn't fix. Reboot didn't fix. Then, I went into the theater and ran from console and all is good again. Even RDP'ing afterward was OK. So, FYI for someone else who updates drivers remotely...
