Hi all,

I am trying to get my ATI TV tuner's sound to connect via a digital cable to my receiver. Is this possible?

So far, no luck with anything I've tried. All my other sources can be played through a digital output on my Terratec 6 Fire sound card. I have tried connecting to the digital out on the ATI dongle, but that hasn't worked so far.

I have not tried to use the 1/8" mini stereo analog out on the dongle that is connected to the sound card. Perhaps that is the only way to have the tv sound played through the receiver, but the literature doesn't mention using it in that fashion.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The SPDIF output of the AIW cards has very limited support.

I have tried it in a long time since I switched to a PCI sound card, but when I did try it the only application that I remember getting to work was DVD playback.

Btw, sorry for posting in the wrong forum.

My reason for asking is that I have just added a small HT system in the same room and I was hoping to use the computer for TV/DVD viewing on my computer's monitor (it is a small space), and I'd really love to be able to listen to the TV and DVD's through the receiver rather than my little Monsoon computer speaker set up.

Well, since digital is probably out of the question, then I should be able to disconnect the 1/8" mini that connects to the soundcard and extend it as an analog stereo input for TV sound. Correct?

I have not tried the DVD setting yet, but surely there would be SPDIF support for AC3 out to a receiver? Yeah I know, coulda, shoulda, woulda...

Ideas?

Thanks, gb

The TV sound is only available from the internal analog output on the card and the analog output on the dongle.

You can connect the dongle analog output directly to an input on your receiver.

If you have the TV card's analog output connected to your sound card, you will be able to hear the TV sound on the analog output of the sound card, provided you have the mixer adjusted properly.

You may be able to get the TV sound on the sound card's digital output by adjusting your sound card settings. For my on board sound, I can select between two modes for the digital output. One mode converts the analog mixer output to digital and pipes it to the digital output; using that mode gets the TV sound, but resamples music.
