ATI 9800 DVI -> Component and Philips Rear-Projection TV

499 Views 0 Replies 1 Participant Last post by  secretagentzero
Here's my setup:

AMD64 box running Ubuntu Dapper, ATI Radeon 9800 for video.

Connected to Phillips 60" Rear Projection HDTV via the ATI Component->DVI converter (bought off monoprice).

Right now, all I'm getting is a garbled mess, even around 800x600. My TV supports 480i, 480p, and 1080i, and I've set the dip switches on the converter accordingly. So here are my questions:

Is correcting this just a matter of finding the correct display timings with Powerstrip?

My TV has two component inputs... one that is HDTV, one that is not. Currently, I'm plugged into the HDTV input. Is that correct?

While the machine is booting, I can see the BIOS and all the Linux startup go by, but the moment I hit X, it makes Picasso look like a photographer.

Any thoughts? I'd really appreciate some help!
