Hi all,

I'm new to this HDTV stuff but hopefully not for long! (I am sorry if this topic has already been posted but I could not find the info I'm seeking.)

Here's what I trying to do:

I have the Ati HDTV card in my HTPC and I am trying to connect it to my DISHnetwork receiver. I want to receive any HDTV staions off of my satellite receiver. I do not have an HDTV DISHnetwork receiver (just the standard one) but some programming is broadcast in HDTV (CSI, football, etc.) I have tried several different connections (coax cable from satellite out, S-video from satellite, satelite cable plugged directly into the HDTV card (bypassing the receiver), etc. I've also tried plugging each different conection into the three connectors on the back of the HDTV card with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong? Anyone have any links to websites that might help me? Do I just set the HDTV card to channel 3 or 4 and pump my DISHnetwork signal through it?

Thanks alot for any help.

What you are trying to do is impossible.

Standard Dish receivers completely ignore satellite HD channels and they don't have the necessary hardware to pick up HD channels OTA.

Your HD card doesn't have the necessary hardware to tune in satellite signals. If it did, we wouldn't be spending $1,000 on HD Tivos and Dish 921's.

Your HD card has an ATSC tuner on it. It's made to pick up the 8VSB modulation scheme from either an antenna or in a very few cases cable. If you were lucky and had the Dish model 5000, it would output an 8VSB. But unfortunately, it doesn't work with 8psk which is the new modulation scheme that Dish is sending their HD channels on.

Ya, that's what I was afraid of. Well, I guess it's time to climb up on the roof and mount the antenna that came with it. Thanks for your time, Robert.

The antenna that came with it mounts on top of the TV. If you can not get good signals you will need a UHF HDTV roof one.
