I hate to post this sort of a thread, but search does not seem to help me today...

upgrading my htpc to a new intel lga system, need pci-e video card

I'm using a 9800pro right now, mostly dvd with ffdshow on this system, rare gaming.

projector connected via dvi.

i've been a long time ati consumer, i bought the 8500 just for he component dongle a few years ago...

is there any real difference with the nvidia and ati offerings now in terms of htpc use? i see the the nvidia stuff has "purevideo" which the jury seems to be still out on,

has anyone updated from a ati dx9 card to a nvidia gforce 6 card and been overly impressed?

I think just about everyone who's seen it has been quite impressed. I know I'm MUCH happier with my 6800 than I was with my 9500.
It takes a lot more work to get the proper vertical refresh rate for your display device with an NVIDIA card than an ATI card. Otherwise, the PureVideo hardware deinterlacing (if you give up FFDShow) works very well, and I prefer it over any non-SIL504 or non-Faroudja DVD players.
I have an HP HTPC that came with a Radeon X300 video card, hated it, so I installed a Radeon X700 Pro. It is connected to my 50" plasma screen TV through component outs. It looks spectacular whether playing video games or watching DVD's through Media Center. And it was pretty easy to set up. Windows Media Center Edition 2005 it such a great interface, I am having a lot of fun with it!

Ok...commercial over.
