Since Catalyst driver version 9.9, we are struggling with a presumed bug with the onboard graphic chip: after waking the system out of the ACPI states S3 (standby, suspend to RAM) or S4 (hibernation, suspend to disk) the graphics chip does not correctly reinitialize. This bug is resulting in no hardware acceleration available anymore though it was activated before S3 / S4.

You can reproduce the S3/S4 resume bug on a system with the following configuration:
  • Mother board: e.g., ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO or GIGABYTE MMA785GMT-UD2H
  • CPU: AMD Sempron 140 or AMD Phenom II x4 810 2.61 GHz or AMD Athlon II X2 240e
  • Graphics: Asus HD 4200
  • RAM: 2 GB (256 MB for Graphics Memory)
  • OS: XP home, 2002 SP 3
  • Driver: ATI Catalyst 9.9 - 10.1, ATI Catalyst Hotfix_WinXP_8.682.2RC1_Dec15 and 10.2 beta
  • Display Hardware: HDMI Display device 1920x1080 as well as VGA Dive 1280x1024

... any idea about solution / work around?

... any information on an upcoming solution by ATI/AMD?
