Atmos speaker recommendations

I currently have a 5.2.2 set up. I'm going to a 7.2.4 set up. I'm adding 2 Q150 KEF's for the side surrounds. I currently have 2 Sonance C6R's as my top fronts. These are budget speakers at $250.00 a pair.

My question is while I'm upgrading, would it be advisable to upgrade all 4 Atmos speakers or just add 2 more Sonance C6R's for my top backs? With the limited amount of top discreet sounds on an Atmos track does it matter?

If you’re happy with the sonance speakers as your top fronts, then it makes sense to match them. If not, you may want to take a look at your options. I have Focal Sibs and think they do a good job as atmos speakers on a budget.

Get something that can angled towards your LP best possible. Elac and Paradigm make speakers in ceiling with a 30 degree angle. Klipsch has a in ceilings with a 15 degree angled woofer thats fully pitch and swivel -able.. the tweeter can be pointed in any direction as well to get you better on axis response.

I own the klipsch in our kids tv room its about 1000 sqft in a 5.2.2 setup and they sound just fine for netflix atmos. We had them installed with the klipsch new work back boxes.

I see lots of recommendations for RSL speakers and yet... I never see theater builds with them being used. So take that for what you will.

In our bedroom we use a pair of SVS prime elevation speakers mounted directly on the ceiling and they sound great as well. A good option if you don't want to cut holes in your ceiling and worry about blown insulation, stud locations or attic critters bothering your speakers like I was. According to dolby they suggest your atmos layer be on par with your bed layers spec and power handling. Having them mounted at a 45 degree angle will help get them right on axis for better imaging. Sadly most homes have 8' ceilings and surround speakers generally are not small and ceiling mounting them can be tedious. Also if its your family room it may not look super nice.

I plan to go with probably the paradigms for theater atmos when I make the upgrade and Ill build back boxes for them. We have diy speakers at the moment and that may change but a good speakers a good speaker and paradigm makes good speakers. Unless I see some more real world reviews of the RSL than I may be cheap and just get those. If I could fit jbl scs8 I would in a heart beat.
