OK-- for the last 2 years since I've had my HD receiver, I have seen many great things on the local stations when I grab them off my mid-sized channelmaster attic antenna. I'm in Jacksonville, FL. Now it looks like some of the stations in Gainesville are online, and I can once in a while pick up a "blip" on those stations while on the signal meter. The Gainesville stations are transmitting from 59 to 72.5 miles from me, and they are all within 10 degrees of angle. Those stations are also UHF only, unlike my local-area stations.
I know that the my current situation with the antenna in the attic is severely limiting my reception, due to the roof decking, tar paper & singles.
But here's the twist....
My angle to the distant stations in gainesville runs at about 225 deg. In my attic, I have a section of outside wall that is pointing in that direction, and the only obstruction is a single layer of T11 siding with paint. (I do realize about multipath, and if it seems like I should "test it" with a large yagi--and if it works, I will get the necessary join-tennas as required) . The mounting point for the yagi would be about 16' off the ground and 15' away from the existing antenna for the local stations.
The question is... How much signal resistance does the 1/2" of T11 siding present? I know that 59-72 miles is somewhat stretching it for outdoor antennas, but it's worth asking the question.
