AU Optronics (AUO) today unveiled a 46-inch HDTV TFT LCD panel. The panel features 1920×1080 resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, Premium MVA wide-viewing-angle (170 degrees both horizontally and vertically), high color saturation (75% NTSC; EBU>100%), greater than 600-nit brightness, 800:1 contrast ratio and response time of less than 12ms (gray to gray).

AUO plans to begin volume production of the panel at its fifth-generation (5G) line by the first quarter of next year. A 1,100×1,250mm substrate processed by the line can yield two 46-inch panels. The company also plans to launch 32W- and 37W-inch LCD TV panels next year.

I've been waiting for a 26-inch 1920x1080p flat panel to replace our 26-inch Panasonic 1920x1080p CRTs at work for 3 years. We bought the last 6 from Intergraph after Panasonic closed the plant to go to flat panels. It's taken a little longer than Panasonic estimated.

Why you can't go for Samsung 240T 24" 1920x1200?

I'm trying to match the physical size/pixel density of a set of real-world extremely expensive avionics displays for a lot less money for a simulator.

was the 26" actually visible 26"?

Personally I'm very excited by this 46" display. Anybody have any idea of real world availability / pricing?

Assuming that the 46" LCD will have DVI PC input has anybody

been thinking about using such big screen as PC monitor?

I mean that the 24" LCD computer monitors are sizable but

normal fonts looks small on them at the 1920 resolution.

The 46" LCD will have biger pixel size so fonts will also be bigger.

But would it be too big on the desk just forcing to turn head when

looking end-to-end? I noticed those stock exchange guys who sit

at three monitors in row, For them on big LCD would useful,no?
