Audigy vs. M Audio w/optical out????

226 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Esben
Can anyone tell me WHY the M audio would be BETTER than my SBLive using the Hoontech optical out to pass the digital bit stream through the SBLive WITHOUT using the lousy DACs on the SBLive card? I am not using the coax out on the SBLIVE so the "out of volt spec." stuff is not relevant to light waves!

Is it that the SBLive upsampling to 48k hurts things? I am not sure I am gonna be sold on the "less jitter" talk, since we are NOT talking about outboard PS and high grade clocks on EITHER of these PCI cards!

Anyone with DIRECT EXPERIENCE ON BOTH CARDS USING ONLY OPTICAL OUT ON BOTH - I am interested. (Does the 24/96 Audiophile card even HAVE optical TOSLINK out?)

The 24/96 Audiophile card doesn't. The Dio 2496 does though.
I hink this has been answered very well by Cliff Watson previously.

I'd recommend a search, and yes, it does decrease sound quality when resampling to 48 KHz.
