When I attempt to play any type of video whether it be a wmv, mpeg, DVD etc... I do not get any video display, but I do get sound....

I have tried re-installing the various media players ad decoders on my XP Sy6stem.

Has anyone else ran into this problem?

Any chance you are using 2 displays? If I recall, many video cards won't play videos on the secondary display using the hardware overlay. You might try using VMR9, or swap displays.

I also recall some threads on people having problems with just a single display, but don't recall if it was fixed.

Negative, im using a single display. My graphics adapter can do dual display, but I have ensured that is disabled.

Outside of the settings inside each media player (QuickTime, Zoom Player, Windows Meida Player, PowerDVD etc.) what else should I look at?

I can broswe the web, play games but cannot watch any videos. errrrrr...
