Audio distribution IR question

319 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  David Guill
Ok I already have a IR repeater system controlling my components in my AV rack. I am considering adding an audio distribution system (Russound/ Xantech). How do I incorporate the IR emitters from the new multizone/source amp when I already have emitters on the sources I want this new system to use?

I am currently using the hidden link kit. What can I do to avoid putting 2 emitters on all my components?

Most likely, you will have to connect the common IR output of the control unit to the input of the connecting block. This will give you the control of the components with the existing system. Unless you have 2 times the same device, you should not have to use the IR output from each zone.

Double check the type of cable required because IR ouputs are usually mono jack where the IR inputs are usually a stereo connector to carry the power to the IR receiver. Since the ouput of the connecting block is connected to the control unit, you might not want to have the power going back from to the controller.

Most of likely the manufacturer have already thought about that but please check to make sure.
thanks for the response!

so is the IR pass through zone specific

or does it automatically light all 4 emitters

no matter which keypad you are using?

In most of the cae, you have one passthrough per source and one common. The common is used all the time, if any IR code is received, it wil be sent there. The one dedicated to the source, it is going only to this source when the source is selected in a zone. There is usually no IR ouput bound per zone. It was mistake in my previous posting.

Sorry for the confusion.

I am assuming that you are using the Xantech 291-10 hidden link kit. If you were to purchase the Xantech MRC-44 or MRC-88 as your multi-room audio distribution system you could tie the Hidden Link receiver directly into the keypad wiring and have all the equipment controlled via the Xantech MRC-44 controller. You could also set up the keypad on the wall such that the IR signals are received by the keypad and passed from that to the HT sources which coexist with the MRC-44 in the A/V rack. Xantech also has the 793-10 which is a serial combine controller which allows you to have two different receivers controlling devices. However, you would need one of these devices per source. Xantech has the solution you just need to figure out which is best in your situation.
