Audio on 2.0?

Was there any change in how 2.0 does audio

in the low quality video mode? Tivo does

high quality audio in all modes, but Replay

chose reduced quality audio in the low quality video mode in 1.X.

I want to know the same thing. Not only is the audio very poor in the standard mode, but the volume level is reduced in all modes. I went through a couple of returns to find out that this is true for all units. We really need audio adjustments to compensate for the quality and volume problems.
I'll add my vote to get the audio tweeked in the next revision.

The low quality of the audio is a drawback, but for me the big complaint is the volume level. We need a software volume level adjustment.

My Replay volume (and from what I see here all of them) is WAY lower than any of my other components (Tv, 2 VCR's, Tape Deck, and Tuner) that I play through my Pro-Logic Receiver. It's a pain having to adjust the volume WAY up to hear the Replay and then remember to turn it WAY down before switching to any of the other components.

I'll agree that the old software needed better quality audio. I just got 2.0 last night and I haven't had time to see if it has changed. The video seems to be better though. It no longer has a greenish hue to it.

I will disagree on the volume level though. I don't notice it being too low. The volume on my DVD player, for example, is definately lower than the ReplayTV.
I agree...the volume level on Replay is just too quiet...when the rare occassion occurs that I watch TV w/o Replay my sound blows me away!!! :-0

I agree as well. Software level audio control would be great. I don't know how many times I've switched directly over to the television and blasted the house because I had the volume so high through the Replay.

Which ReplayTV model do you have? While the audio *quality* differs, depending upon the recording settings, the volume on the current models is pretty well-balanced. I find that it's actually very slightly louder than my straight feed.
Mike,

I have both a 2020 and 3030. The audio volume on the 3030 is MUCH better than on the 2020. Also if I recall this depends on your input into the machine too. I use RF in on both machines and if I recall that was where the worst volume problems were.

On the 3030 the volume is at and possibly just a very small tad above the level of regular TV.

NOTE: I have my cable split so that each Replay, my VCR, and the TV each get their own straight cable. Then on the TV I have cable on the RF in, Vid 1 is my DVD player (SVID), Vid 2 is the VCR (RCA's), and Vid 3 is the Replays (SVID). All (ok almost all) audio/video is pumped through my Receiver. The only reason I use the Svid 1 & 3 on the TV is due to a limitation on the receiver. I only had 2 Svid in's on it so the Replays got those and the DVD player video is hooked straight to the TV with the audio utilizing the CD input on the receiver. VCR is video 1, Replays are Vid 2 and vid 3 inputs on the Receiver.

Yep, there is a known problem with the 2000 series units where the rf input volume is considerably lower then 'live' or other inputs. There was a hardware fix for it in 3000 that levels it off and it's now fine. But if you have a 20xx you may be SOL on that one.

The biggest audio problem isn't ReplayTV's fault.

The biggest problem is that cable boxes (at least MY cable box) don't have a component line-level output for audio.

It would be VERY nice if box makers would do this -- I think it is becoming more and more common for people to use A/V receivers and their stereo systems to watch TV with. I use my TV as a monitor ONLY... I hate having a volume controlled cable output to a volume controlled A/V Receiver. Why can't they give outputs like DVD and CD players to make life easier?

Do sattelite receivers (DishNetwork or DircTV) have component line outs?

Ciao

I have the Showstopper. Don't know what the issue is but there is a large difference in audio levels coming out of it versus without it.

That's because the commercials are louder, and you're not used to hearing them. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

I have a 2004. When I compare the audio from my Dish box directly and the audio through the 2004 it appears that the audio loses some of its DPL separation. The center, left, and right appear to smear together through the Replay. Also, the audio just isn't a clear sounding. This is in addition to the very low audio level. How does MPEG handle DPL?

Cheers
