I am building my first HTPC (actually my first PC build), and appear to have every cable I need except an audio cable for my DVD-RW drive. The drive is my sole optical drive on this system.

Is connecting the audio out cable necessary? What exactly does it do? If I don't connect it, won't the audio still travel through the IDE cable?

My motherboard has built-in audio, which I will be connecting a fiber opticly to my stereo system.

Thanks in advance for the help!
