I need to connect the standard PC audio output (5.1 channel, over 3 1/8' connectors) over a distance of 50 feet.

I was able to find many 3.5mm single cables for that length, however what will the sound be like? I am not an audiophile, but i am concerned about audible hiss and stuff like that.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Another solution would be to run 50 feet Toslink (but i really don't want to do that, cause that means i would need to get a 2-in-1-out Toslink switch on my setup, and i am trying to keep it as cheap as possible.

Thank you all for replies

You could also just run 3 1/8" to RCA converters and then run some shielded RCA cables to the system. I would even go with some RG59 or RG6 coax cable terminated with RCA connections.
