I'm hoping someone can help me with an audio problem regarding a Yamaha RX-V365 hooked up to a Samsung BD-1600 BR player.

The BR player is hooked up to the receiver's CBL/DVR input because it uses an optic connection. When I insert a disc, one of the following happens:

- No sound

- No sound except for a low rumbling from the subwoofer

- Diminished sound that requires me to turn the volume up quite high to hear it.

The receiver seems to be getting a signal from the BR player because the receiver display says "STRAIGHT" when a disc starts playing. I'm positive the receiver is set to the right input. I ran the receiver test sequence and got sound from all 5 speakers. The sound from the Tivo works fine, but that is hooked up with RCA cables (the only other optic input is for a CD player).

Any ideas? I'd really like to figure this out so I can start enjoying my new system. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Sounds like a possible problem with either the receiver or the player. Do you have, or can you borrow a CD or DVD player with an optical out to test with another device?

I'll admit to not knowing much about Yamaha receivers but it sounds like all the speakers except the sub is shut off in the speaker setup menu under the cbl/dvr settings.
