Audio Questions...

Just bought the Onkyo 509 / Jamo 426 and a BIC F12. I've been using onboard audio for gaming and music and SPDIF passthrough to my receiver for movies. Since I'm upgrading my setup I'm going to go ahead and add a dedicated sound card. I have the Xonar DG in my gaming PC and it works great due to the headset amp. Would the Xonar DS be a better choice though? There is only a $15 difference but if the DG would be a good choice I'd gladly go with that again.

Well after reading a little bit more it appears as if the onboard will be fine. I also read that most have started supplying the receiver via HDMI. I have a 4850 1GB with onboard HDMI. I read that some cards do not support all of the latest HD audio. Does anyone know if my 4850 will support the latest HD audio?
HD4000 series supports SPDIF over HDMI as well as 7.1 LPCM.

It does not support HD audio codecs; DTS-HD, TrueHD etc.

For those, you need a HD5/6000 series card.

Ok, that is what I was afraid of. I will just use the optical out from the motherboard until I decide to upgrade.
