I started researching on audio systems for our media room and could not decide which one to pick. I am looking at the budget of 5K for my audio system. Please help me choose the best possible system.

For 5K you can do well. Some of the questions will be what other equipment do you have, i.e. how are you powering them, what are the room dimensions, does it open up to another room, any details will be helpful.

Thanks for your response. Room is 21X16. I am thinking of using Marantz SR6008. I got 3 choices but could not finalize. klipsch, Focal and Definitive technology. Please let me know

First, I would divide out your budget. I would suggest the following:

1. 500-700 for an Avr

2. 1500-2000 for a very good, or maybe two, subs.

3. 2500 for speakers, with around 2000 for your front stage.

Brands? Well, that is very subjective and only you can decide what sounds good. I would look into the ascend acoustic Sierra towers. Btw, nothing wrong with the brands you are considering!

I agree with hawk. Brand(s) choice is a personal thing and what I like or anyone else likes is irrelevant as it all boils down to what YOU like since you are the one cutting the cheque. You're going to have to do some homework considering the physical limitations (speaker size mostly), features, budget, what's available locally, etc. Once you've done that put your boots s to the pavement and go listen. Specs are one thing but as you have found out it's very difficult to decide if you haven't at the very least had a listen to them in a store. Preferably find a store that will allow you to audition them in your own home as the listening environment will have a considerable impact on the final sound. But the bottom line is go listen to the gear and make your own choice. Good luck with your quest.
