Hey Guys! Hope everyone had a holly jolly Christmas.


I've tried asking this in the Sony receiver thread, but I havent gotten a respnose. Anyway, here's my question:


I've got a STR DG1000 AVR which gives you the option of setting it to 4 or 8 ohms depending on your speaker setup. Recently, when running my Auto-Cal function again, I had the receiver set to 4 ohms.


(As an aside, my front three speakers are 8 ohms, but the satellites (x4) are all 6 ohms, so I set my receiver to 4 ohms at the suggestion of another AVSer).


It seems like I've noticed some dips and peaks in the sound response from my speakers, meaning that some of them are exceptionally loud or soft when i wouldnt expect them to be. Is this the result of running auto-cal at 4 ohms? Would it be preferable to set the receiver to 8 ohms when running auto-cal, then switching to 4 ohms after setting the levels; or should I just leave it at 8?

Typical advice is to always use your system with the selector at 8ohms. This would inlcude during auto cal.

Since the front three will be handling more power than the surrounds, the impedance should be optimized for them.

alright, thanks guys! I'll redo the auto-cal and keep it at 8 ohms. Thanks for the advice.
