Auto Calibration

Do most of you adjust the speaker levels manually after the Auto Calibration by using the sound meter? Or do you just leave everything alone and not mess with anything after the Auto Calibration?

The 4 dolby atmos ceiling speakers and the 2 rear speakers in the back are hard to hear after the Auto Calibration. I was thinking of using the sound meter to bump up all speakers to 75db.

To adjust speaker levels properly after ARC (Automated Room Correction), you need to use an external source for the test tones. Most AVR test tones are not run through the EQ filters that ARC sets. Depending on how much correction ARC has done in your room, the difference can vary from dramatic to minuscule.

That being said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with setting your speaker levels to whatever sounds best to you.

Yeah but I’m usually turning the auto level points audyssey sets to a lower dB level.

I find every calibration to be very different in the way it makes the system sound, depending on the ambient background noise during when the calibration was conducted. Even if i get identical level and distance numbers in two back to back calibrations, they will still sound completely different. Makes me wonder....

Please be more specific, which "auto calibration" are you asking about?

I've never seen that definition for ARC before. So, now we have ARC = Automated Room Correction, Anthem Room Correction, and Audio Return Channel. No opportunity for misunderstanding there!

I was about to ask the same thing. I'm having the same problem with the auto calibration as well on my Onkyo rz930. Sounds like the 4 ceiling ones are too low...

Verify their levels with the internal test tones and an SPL meter ("C" weighted) or an SPL app on a smartphone.

After I adjust the speakers via auto calibration I just leave it as it is. Didn't have any problem with the sounds so far.
