Didn't the showstopper's do it?

I'd check, but I just got rid of mine.

Not automatically. You tell it you want to copy a single show and it counts down. You need to have your VCR up and recording by the time it hits zero. At least that's my recollection. I think I tried doing this once with my SS many moons ago.

On a purely theoretical note, presumably you could use an IR blaster to control a VCR. Plus, I'm guessing that software could be developed that could start the VRC taping while the DVR starts sending a show to a set of outputs attached to the VCR. You could pre-set the recorder to tape archive shows at 4 in the morning. This could work as long as you remembered to change the tapes.

It would be even cooler if you could do this to DVDs or CDs.

Ah, yes, you're right.

You could always program some big macro in a remote to take care of everything.

I saw something on our new Sony DirecTivo about it but I think it only works with Sony VCRs. I haven't tried it tho.
