Hey guys...

I'm looking for that perfect AV rack for my stuff. I have a 42" plasma mounted on the wall and a good 4 feet between it and the floor. I have a modern looking place...but toned down...nice amber lampshades on metal lamps...black leather couches (bachelor pad of course ;) ), a slate coffee table and end tables, etc. So I'm looking for a dark wood or even better a dark stone top AV rack. Something I think would be great would be something low (20-30") and wide (wider than my TV, say...45" or a bit more), but not extremely deep (my deepest component is 18", so as thin as possible that holds that). In terms of what it's made out of, I'm thinking dark wood, and/or glass, and/or stone. I would love stone to match the coffee table's decor. The thing is I'm looking for something relatively minimalist and plain, no drawers, no doors, just shelves. I don't have a ton of components so I don't need a lot of shelves (4-5 components total). Any ideas or pictures anyone? Thanks!

If you want to keep with the existing look, consider contacting the manufacturer of your coffee / side tables. If they don't do anything suitable as stock, perhaps they may be able to do a custom build for you.

OR consider keeping that nice clean look (and keeping a nice audio image too) by puttin the components in a closet and just mounting an IR repeater?

Thanks guys for all the quick replies!

Rupert:

Checked the whole site actually before I posted...didn't find anything I liked but I'll check again. I'm currently looking at two...

(That's a black powdercoated and glass piece...plain and long enough to work)

That's a wood piece with a black powdercoated rear frame (and I think brings in the dark wood as well as the trim of the Panasonic 42PHD-7UY).

I haven't found a thing that's stone yet though.

David Lewis:

That'd be a great idea actually...but it's totally discontinued, and the only piece that could work was a high long sofa-back table they had which I don't think would work well.

bpape:

Unfortunately since it's an apartment I'm renting...and there's no nearby closet...I have no way of doing that. I wish I did. I can't punch holes in walls for wires etc either.

So I realize pictures of my place may help (or at least give you guys an idea). So here you go. I took a pic of the screen because I want you guys to see the block of cords I'm also trying to cover up. One good thing about this place is that it has connections for both bedrooms that are prewired with in wall speakers, as well as for surround speakers (with the terminals coming out on either side of my main couch just right), as well as for ethernet, etc.

I moved in like....really weeks ago and am still unpacking/drilling/etc...so yeah it looks pretty trashy now but don't make TOO much fun of me ;)

glass:

I appreciate you taking the time to look through those and pick that one out. However...the only thing is that piece is higher than it is wide (so it's going to be top heavy on carpet), and also I'm sort of thinking that having a narrow piece under the plasma won't look as good as having a lower, wider piece. Not sure though. I was checking out these:

(Wood front piece, black powder coated metal back)...this would cover the wires up (and I'd just run a paint matched tube down from the plasma)

http://www.storeyourmedia.com/images/details/mgv-3.jpg ...and I'd just have to put the components in front of the wire boxes.

I'm thinking something with sides would look better though. Like this:

But in a darker wood...
