I would really like to complete my current setup by adding an AV Receiver with 5.1 Surround Sound. The only problem is i know very little about AV Receiver setups, brands and decent entry models as i have never purchased one before.

I would greatly appreciate the advice of anyone who could recommend a setup..heres my current config:

1080p TV With Component,HDMI,DVI & VGA Inputs.

Xbox 360 (connected Via HDMI)

Macbook (Connected By DVI)

Obviously all of my media needs are served by the mac, but i would also like to play my 360 in surround sound.

Could anyone recommend a setup, with some cheap-ish speakers? Im not an audiophile, but i imagine it'll beat the current setup of using some ****** PC speakers with a sub. Looking for a AV Receiver and Surround Speakers for Around £200($400USD)? (Im a skint student, cant afford lots £££!) is this Possible?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Shane

Your best bet for a cheap, but functional, surround sound setup might be the "package deals" that are frequently offered by places like Best Buy here in the North America... I'm sure something similar exists over on the other side of the pond.

Basically a big retailer will bundle a receiver (Yamaha, typically) and a basic 5.1 or 7.1 surround setup (Harmon-Kardon or other bigbox brands) together for a lowish price, though even your $400 upper limit might be a *little* too low, if I remember the pricing I've seen.

I don't know what the equivalent of Best Buy is over there, if any, but that's where you should start looking.
