AV Receiver Question and Help

I could really use some help and knowlodge if anyone could possible let me know the answer to my quesion. I have read the manual cover to cover more times that I would like to think and can not find the answer to this quesion. I am trying to make sure all of my audio settings on my receiver (Denon AVR 3300) and blu-ray player, Samsung BD-P1400 are correct so that I am getting the new lossless audio codecs. My main question is this. Can someone tell me if the Denon AVR 3300 has a PCM down sampling rate of 48Khz or 96Khz? By the way I have my audio going from the Samsung via the 5.1 analog outs to the Denon analog ins (Denon has no HDMI, older receiver) and have audio set to PCM on the Samsung, is this correct? Thank you very much for your help and advice.

I used a Denon 3300 with a P1400 for about a year until I replaced the 3300 with a Onkyo 805. First, I do not understand the reason for your question about the down sampling rate since it does not apply when using 5.1 analog connections. It is standard analog audio, not PCM, passing between the P1400 & the 3300.

Secondly, you will have some issues to overcome:

1. The P1400 does not have any bass management capability other than setting the speaker sizes to either "small" or "large" and turning "on" the subwoofer output. BTW - - When you set the speakers to small it just sets the crossover to 100Hz, nothing else. MIA are; 1) no speaker distance settings, and 2) no LFE boost.

2. The Denon 3300 has NO bass management, or any other type of DSP capability, when using its 5.1 analog input. This is not unusal BTW.

3. It is possible to adjust the audio input levels for each input. Normally, all you need to do is just set the master level settings per channel and all is good to go. However, since you are missing LFE boost when using 5.1 analog, you will need to set the ".1" analog input +15dB (assuming that you have set the speaker sizes to small) higher than reference level to fix this issue.

4. There is no way to fix the missing speaker distance settings; you just have to live without it.

5. Side note: When I adjusted the analog input, I discovered that all 6 channels where exactly 4dB lower than the levels that was set using the master setup. This is factory standard apparently; watch out!

5a. Once you set your analog input to the correct levels, then if for some reason you have to go back and adjust your master levels, all your custom input levels automatically reset back to factory preset.

It took me a long time a year ago to figure all this out. The Denon Manual is so poorly written it is nearly impossible to figureout what has to be done and what it is not doing. Same with the P1400 Manual except that it is easy to read, but does not begin to tell a person how to properly setup the system when using analog.

Thank you sptrout for the detailed explanation. The reason I ask these questions is because I have been told that I need to have audio set up in the 1400 to PCM and not bitstream when using analog outs, this is so I can get lossless audio, Dolby TrueHD, DD+, DTS HD HR, etc. Also the 1400, in set up mode, asks me if my receive is 48Khz or if it is 96Khz and I have to check off one of the other, this is the reason for that question. Hope this clarifies why I am asking these questions.

The reason the setup asks about the bit rate is if you are passing PCM via HDMI (older than 1.3). When using the P1400's analog output, it does not make any difference how you check this setting.
