hey!

i'm new to the ffdshow filter. but it's amazing. i use it for postprocessing dvds (PAL) since one week. i use it for resize and to add a bit more sharpness to the videos. i run it with zoomplayer incl. windvd6 and i'm just testing the new dscaler 5 video decoder (nice!)

i did some search in this forum but found nothing suitable for me. but now i have 2 questions:

1)

in some dvds i have a little bit flickering in some scenes. is there a trick to avaid this? maybe a filter/option in ffdshow?

2)

what filter / options do you use for deinterlacing? i have dscaler installed and there are so many options... so what's the best deinterlace setting for dvds?

thaks for your help!

The Dscaler deinterlace filters don’t work very smoothly in FFDShow.

Try the build in deinterlace filters like ffmpeg or 5 Tap low pass. They work well for me with PAL

Most DVD’s are film sourced and do not require deinterlacing.

Interlacing normally causes jagged vertical edges on horizontal movement, not flicker.

Hi digidroid,

You can try these settings for deinterlacing I have posted in ffdshow faq thread:

-change order of deinterlacing and put it after resizing

-select Picture properties with blue RGB gamma correction set to 1.01

-resize to your screen resolution with Lanczos3 or Lanczos4

and check the interlaced check box (not the grayed check)

-deinterlace with 5-tap low pass

-output YV12

In this configuration the resizing is done for each interlaced field and the deinterlacing is done after the resizing, so the image is much more smooth. The menu letters are slightly blurred, but the moving images are much better, with less stair-stepping.

The higher you resize the better the results.

With this configuration it stutters a bit, even with only 53% cpu utilization.

I had less stutter with elecard decoder, the sonic gave me more.

Also with overlay mixer I had less stutter than with VMR9.

I had select Picture properties just for converting the image to YV12.

To change the order of the filters, when you select it appears two arrows on the left. Click on each of it to go up or down.

Regards
