Great, I believe there are a lot of people interested in your impression of AVP2 vs AVP, myself included. Is it worth the money? You may also want to tell us how long does it take the dealer to finish the upgrade. My dealer is reluctant to do the upgrade since they don't have enough people to do this.

We will be anxiously waiting for you post .....

was told it should take about 2 hrs......apparently a new board is installed and more than one old boards removed. plus software download.

i think it's intricate and detailed work with lots of small screws, but i don't think any solder.

i trust my dealer completely. i had him do the 390S upgrade to my #39 Levinson CD player a few months back.

Can you tell me which dealer do you use? If my dealer wouldn't do the upgrade and I cannot find a local dealer that would, I may consider to send the unit out to an out-of-state dealer to get it done. It's better than pay $300 more and wait for an extra 4-6 weeks to get it upgraded in the factory.

sorry...wasn't online for a while.

my AVP is at my dealer (Audio Outlet in Mt. Kisco, NY, and btw Mike, these guys are great). i will pick it up saturday morning.

the upgrade kit consists of a large printed circuit board (approx 8" x 10"), with tons of surface mounted devices (DAC's, etc) plus all the output female connectors. beyond that there's just a few wiring harnesses, a new AVP2 owners manual, and a metal backplate with serial number. the new software is already installed. i think the big board replaces what was before 3 or 4 small boards. overall it looks pretty plug and play.

as for pricing Pesto....i am also buying the PMDT and some cables, so i am getting a small overall discount. in my experience, the best you can do from an authorized madrigal dealer is 10%.

is it "worth" it.........???? will find out tomorrow! given that there is basically zero value to the old boards, i would have to say that yes...getting half the guts of an AVP2 probably is fair at $2500. i am expecting a subtle but audible improvement. i have yet to be disappointed by any Magrigal products (as others seem to have been). i think they sound and look great and are priced competitively.
