AVR-3806: Can Audyssey be used for just Sub?

267 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Schadenfreude
I'm wondering if you can set a mode (or somehow trick the receiver) into applying Audyssey room correction processing on the subwoofer channel only?

A while back I played with PC-based room correction software (DRC) and wasnt sure I liked the outcome. So, I'd like the ability to only apply it to the subwoofer frequencies.

Is it possible?

Thanks,

Andy K.

I'm afraid not. You can only have a choice of EQ modes (Audyssey, Front, Flat, or OFF). There's a Manual option but it's just a basic equalizer.

Having lived with Audyssey for a while now, it's very impressive, you might like it. :)
I think theres a good chance I will too (especially with the 'Front' option). Since it lets you EQ 6 different positions I also have to guess it is naturally far less aggressive in the higher frequencies anyways. But ideally I'd like to have the option.

I wonder if you disconnect all speakers except the sub before running the auto-eq if it would effectively do what I'm thinking? Or maybe it would just hopelessly confuse the algorithm...

Thanks,

Andy K.
I'm pretty sure you'd end up with error messages if you had no speakers connected. As I understand it, whilst Audyssey corrects the whole frequency response it applies more of its filter correction power in the lower frequencies.

There's a nice bit of info about it on their website:-
