AVR question

Getting ready to start wiring my home theater soon and have a quick question. Can a denon reciver run say 9.2 on home theater and then run a few in ceiling speakers in my pool table room on a different pathway. So if I’ve maxed out my Channels in the theater is there a way to run them on a different zone? Just making sure I don’t need to step up my avr with one with more channels

I dont think you can run both at the same time.
Why not pick up a cool vintage receiver as a conversation piece for the pool room? (says a guy with 5 complete home theatre setups, and multiple other receivers in his house)

Some Denon receivers could, but I believe only the 6700 and up.
Different recievers seems easier and cheaper. Plus its in the room your actually listening in.

Not to run at the same time but to play some music in the pool room while the the theater is not in use. But that got me thinking that a low channel receiver might be pretty darn cheap. What kinda “budget”vintage type thing are you thinking cause I’m already pushing past the wife approval factor zone with my 10k in AV😬

Just not sure there is a great place to put it in the pool room. Wish they made a cool in the wall receiver 🤔
Well, a year ago during the lockdown i picked up a 10 year old dolby tru hd yamaha, with infinity tower speakers for $170. them kept adding to it and built a 7.2 system for $360, using an old plasma and bluray i had for a basement workshop system. I'm sure you could find something that appeals to you for under $200. A 2 channel receiver could go under $100 based on what ive seen online. The cool factor is up to your shopping.:sneaky:

Shelf behind the bar?
Shelf behind the bar?
Sadly the bar is farther away then the media closet so may just put it in the media closet and run an ir blaster
as long as the receiver you find has ir capability.

If the Denon receiver has support for a 2nd zone, then you absolutely should be able to do what you are looking to do. I have a Yamaha 5.1.2 setup, and run a set of speakers to my patio for a Zone 2 setup. Whenever I turn on the patio speakers (zone 2) it disables my Atmos speakers and feeds those channels to the patio. The living room can still play 5.1 while the Patio is on. It's a win/win for me as I only need my smartphone to control my receiver also.

I’m looking at the denon 3700 or the 6700 so I’ll have to check out the specs . Thanks
Yeah, they both support multi-room playback.

How do you have it wired? Looking on the back of the denon 3700 I don’t see a zone two out only the 9 channels out.
This should help.

You would wire your speakers to the Height 2 channels.

This is the whole point of a multi zone AVR ... to be able to either play the same source in two different rooms or to play a different source in each room. All Denon 7Ch and higher models feature Zone 2 capability.

The X3700H is a 9CH model with Zone 2 pre-outs. Therefore you can use the X3700H to power your 9CH main zone setup but then will need an external 2CH amp (eg. AudioSource Amp100VS or old AVR) to power the Zone 2 (ie. pool table room) speakers.

The X6700H is an 11Ch model with Zone 2 and Zone 3 pre-outs; however, with only needing to power 9 speakers in the main zone, there are still 2 on board amps to power the Zone 2 speakers. Although no external amp would be required, the X6700H would be a far more expensive option unless you want the extra features provided (eg. Auro 3D, Dialog Enhancer, Made in Japan, Front Wide speakers, expandable to 13Ch) in addition to the 2 additional amps.

Note also that the 2020 models (eg. X3700H and X6700H) are discussed in the 2020 Denon AVR Owner's thread. Review post #1 in that thread to learn the feature differences between each of the models.
