AVR with Pandora, Wi-Fi, and ideally, Airplay - does it exist?

Hi, all...

Is there a sub-$1000 AVR that has built-in wifi and also streams Pandora AND internet radio? Ideally, is there such a device that also includes Airplay, or has it as an option?

I'm most interested in music streaming, but if you have such a device to recommend and know anything about the video conversion, that would be great to know.

I've searched this forum and elsewhere and think the answer is "sorry, no can do," but thought I'd ask here.

Well, only Denon and Pioneer/Elite even have Airplay.

Most AVR are LAN based, which you can then purchase a dongle.

If you give up the Airplay(and can just use a USB) you can get an Onkyo with the V-tuner(starting at the 709. The 809, still under $1000 has two USB, so you can use the rear USB for the WIFI dongle and the front USB for the Iphone/Ipad/Ipod)

The new Pioneers and Denons have ethernet, Pandora streaming, internet radio and Airplay starting around $500.

I would think you would be able to find a wireless adapter that would work.

By calling Electronics Expo and asking for their best price, you can get the new Denon 2112CI with Audyssey MultEQ XT and those features you want less the wireless capability (the lowest model with built in wireless is the 4810 at MSRP $3000) for less than 1/2 your budget. Then simply add a wireless adapter like this one and you're good to go ... for still roughly 1/2 your budget.

You need a Denon RCD-N7. $599. It does that.

That's rather what I'm looking for.. all the same setup migs_inc suggested but I'm fine with having a wired ethernet connection. Can you control your iTunes library with the 2112? Or, even better, the Android app Denon has for its AVRs?

Denon has an Apple App to control the Denon via iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad. I've seen many post about it. Don't know how the Android app works.

I've seen this discussed a lot and the AirPlay stuff talks a lot about controlling your receiver and using AirPlay on your iOS device to play through the speaker. I've seen very little about Droids, let alone whether these apps/AVRs can control an iTunes library on another DLNA source (in my case a HTPC Mac Mini) elsewhere on the home network.

Looking for something very similar to the OP. I'm partial to Denon. I have a Sqeezebox Radio in my bedroom and listen to a lot of internet radio (Pandora and streaming stations). Airplay or Apple features are of little interest to me.

I need to buy an AVR for my living room and would like a unit that has the ability to stream radio stations and Pandora. Essentially, I'd like for it to do what my Squeezebox does, without having to buy another Squeezebox. Ideally, I'd like for it to have Wi-fi capability, though I'd setup some kind of bridge if necessary.

Spending not more than $500 would make me happy.

Suggestions?

Why is wi-fi a req? Wi-fi is always a bad idea for stationary devices. Use MOCA if you can't run a network wire - especially if you have FIOS (that way you only need to buy one thing, not two). But really, run a network wire. Wi-fi is limited in spectrum and performance sucks with streaming stuff especially when you've got, say, 5-6 devices using a typical consumer router. MOCA is like power line networking but over the cable wire and actually pretty good. FIOS uses it by default. You would just add one MOCA box per location (not per device; you could use one MOCA box and a switch if you have multiple devices in a location) including one at the main networking switch/entrance (again, if you have FIOS, you already have this - and in fact your Actiontec "router" is a MOCA adapter + router).

The yet to be released Yamaha RX-V773 has all of that but MSPR is $849.

It's the RX-V773WA that has all that, where the "WA" suffix indicates that it comes bundled with a USB wireless adapter.

Will it also up convert composite video to 1080I or 1080P? If so, this is a receiver that I shall have to look into.

Thanks for the thorough reply. I'm not familiar with MOCA but a quick Google query has clued me in some. I'd prefer Wi-fi simply because I'm still not 100% certain where I'm going to place the AVR, TV, etc and would like the flexibility of being wireless. But I agree, wired will provide better performance.

I do in fact have FiOS. I'll have to do some reading about MOCA. I need to familiarize myself.

All Denon networking XX12 and XX13 model AVRs have Pandora and Airplay as well, with the new 1613 and 1713 having MSRP's below $500.

Didn't know Yamaha offered any other 773

So I assumed the "WA" suffix was not needed.

That MoCA is pretty slick. Looks like a great solution, considering there will need to be coax near the AVR for the TV. That really changes my thinking about looking for an AVR with Wifi capability.

I've had this Squeezebox radio for nearly two years but only yesterday realized there is an Android Squeezebox app available. I'm thinking it might make more sense to pick up a Squeezebox Duet for under $200 (without the remote) to use with the new living room AVR and simply control it with the Android app. I'm already familiar with the Squeezebox interface and with a less expensive AVR, it'll be close to a wash.
