avr254 no video with ps3,xbox,cablebox, on screen menu

I just purchased a 254 and I am pretty decent when it comes to home theater components but this one is baffling me. I can not get the set up display... no video output whatsoever. Optical-in works but I cant do anything in order to set up my speakers. I tried plugging in the speaker sensor, tried resetting by holding OK button on the receiver, tried component out, tried hdmi out... im running out of ideas here.. I am about to return it and get the one i originally wanted the pioneer 1018..
